I’ll tell you, almond butter happens to be my favorite of all the nut butters, post-caveman. Pre-caveman, I was into peanut butter (like most of America), but since my transformation, I find almond butter is the closest thing in taste and texture. But almonds, and most nuts have a bad omega-6 ratio, so they should be eaten in moderation, and there’s nothing really moderate about a nut butter, since it takes a lot more than you would normally eat in a sitting, to make into a butter.
The only nut you can eat in bulk without fear of omega-6 are macadamia nuts. They have the best balance of healthy fat of all the nuts, so eat away. I have made bread out of macadamia nuts, as well as fake hummus, and I’ve eaten macadamia nut butter many times, but the slightly sweet taste it has doesn’t make it my favorite. It also doesn’t make bread that toasts well, and in my opinion (I’ve tried them all), almond butter bread is the only way to go for paleo bread!
Cashew butter is something I don’t know about, because cashews are one of those items with conflicting theories on “is it or isn’t it paleo?” I stay away from all items like that because I’m anal thorough. Another item that fall into this category for me are sweet potatoes.
Never had brazil nut butter before, but I’m a big fan of brazil nuts (in moderation). They are the best source of selenium on earth, which has all kinds of health benefits (look them up yourselves, you lazy bastards). My favorite way to eat them are fresh roasted, and then stuffed into a date. Outrageously good. Even better when mixid into frozen banana ice cream!
